HARNESSING THE STRENGTH OF A THOUSAND RIVERS
A LOOK BACK AT OUR ROOTS & IMPACT
Chinese Progressive Association, San Francisco, CA
A thousand rivers. In 1971, a group of young people and elders gathered in the basement of the International Hotel in Chinatown, San Francisco to express their voices. At a time when Asian Americans were experiencing different struggles in the radical movement, discrimination and exploitation, and their voices being suppressed, they decided to stand up and created a space where they could come together to build resistance against these injustices.
