STAY THE RIGHT WAY

STOPPING THE STADIUM MEGA-DEVELOPMENT

Asian Pacific Environmental Network, Oakland, CA

This video series was created in partnership with Asian Pacific Environmental Network and Stay The Right Way Coalition in support of the communities' fight against the Oakland A’s from building a stadium mega-development next to Laney College. We featured Laney student, Amado Canham (left), and Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay’s Program Manager, Thao Dang Weldy (right). Local community members rallied to protect public education institutions like Laney, affordable housing, jobs, and keep Oakland neighborhoods a sanctuary for new immigrants and refugees so they can stay and thrive.

As a result of this campaign, we halted the Oakland A’s proposed stadium on December 12th, 2017 . This comes after four months of organizing by students and staff of Laney, residents from Eastlake and Chinatown, and Lake Merritt environmentalists demanding that the Peralta Board of Trustees end talks with the Oakland A's.
